Jiro Kokuryo, Professor at the Faculty of Policy Management as well as a Professor at the Graduate School of Media and Governance. He joined Keio in 1993 as an associate professor at the Graduate School of Business Administration, where he was appointed professor in 2000. He served as Executive Director of the Keio Research Institute at SFC (2005-2009) and Dean of the Faculty of Policy Management (2009-2013), before being appointed Vice-President for International Collaboration and Education (2013-2021).

His research and teaching interests center on the development of business and social models that maximize the benefits of information technologies. He is particularly active in studying effective uses of open systems. He received many awards for his academic work including Japan Society for Management Information (annual best paper award), The Telecommunications Advancement Foundation (Telecommunications Social Science Award).

Professor Kokuryo holds a bachelor of economics from the University of Tokyo (1982), master in business administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School (1988), and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) also from Harvard Business School (1992).

Prior to joining Keio University, Professor Kokuryo worked for Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, where he promoted the use of information technologies for corporate users.

In addition to private sector interest, Professor Kokuryo is very active in serving public interests. As a member of a council to the Prime Minister’s IT Strategic Headquarters, he has been playing a central role in formulating Japan’s information technology policies. He also works closely with volunteer organizations and was commended by the Minister of Internal Affairs for his distinguished service to the development of regional societies.
