The Connected Learning and Neurodiversity project explores research, design, and practice that brings together the strengths-based paradigm of neurodiversity with learner-centered approaches that align with the connected learning paradigm. Its purpose is to build an interdisciplinary and collaborative network of researchers, educators, and designers across Japanese and English-speaking contexts. It integrates the unique strengths of Japanese and overseas scholarship to research, design, and spread programs and policies for neurodiverse learners. The programs being developed tap media, games, and emerging technologies, with activities in digital fabrication, role-playing games, and platforms such as Minecraft and Roblox.
The project kicked off with the Celebrating Neurodiversity event held in 2023. It also organizes the Neurodiversity Potential Study Group, hosting online webinars and developing essays and other resources, including a report on Integrating Connected Learning, Neurodiversity, and Emerging Technology.
